The Maths Generator is an activity that automatically builds batches of math questions for you. Unlike other templates, this isn't a single game style; it’s a tool that populates other templates with mathematical content in seconds.

How the activity is played
Because the Maths Generator is a "content builder" rather than a stand-alone game, the gameplay depends entirely on the output template you selected.
If you chose Quiz, students answer multiple-choice questions.
If you chose Airplane, they navigate through the sky to hit the correct answer.
You can always use the Switch Template panel on the right side of the activity page to try the same math set in a different game format!
Creating your Maths Generator activity
-
Click Create Activity and select the Maths Generator icon.
Select the specific math operation or curriculum area you want to focus on (e.g., multiplication, fractions, or algebra).
Choose which game style you want the questions to appear in (such as Quiz, Airplane, or Whack-a-Mole).
Choose how many questions you want the generator to create for this batch.
-
Click Done. The system will automatically generate the equations and the correct/incorrect answer options.
-
Look for the Switch Template in the right-side of your activity screen to choose a preferred template for your activity.
-
Scroll down to Visuals to add a creative style to your activity, or tailor the difficulty in the Options panel below the activity:
The Visual style themes and gameplay settings within the Options panel will change dynamically depending on the interactive template game you selected to host your math sets.
-
Timer
- None: Disables the time limit completely, allowing students to calculate math equations at their own pace without clock pressure.
- Count up: Displays an ascending stopwatch that tracks exactly how long it takes for a student to solve and link all the generated math equations.
- Count down: Sets a strict time limit (e.g., 5 minutes) to test mental math speed under a countdown crunch.
-
Retries
- Allow single retry after incorrect answer: When checked, this grants students an immediate second attempt to recalculate and fix a mismatched math problem before marking it finalised (unchecked/disabled in the screenshot).
- Automatically proceed after marking: When enabled, the game instantly transitions to the next set of math problems or page layout the moment a selection is submitted and graded.
-
Matches per page
- Use the slider to determine how many equation-and-answer pairs are presented to the student on a single screen view. In the screenshot, this is set to 10 items per page.
-
Layout
- Separated: Keeps the generated math equations and their calculated solutions cleanly structured into separate, isolated visual columns.
- Mixed: Scatters the equations and answers loosely across the entire interactive board to increase the tracking challenge.
-
Random
- Different layout each play: Randomises the positioning of all elements on the screen every time the activity is launched, preventing students from memorising placement patterns.
- Always the same layout: Locks the visual layout and sorting positions into a fixed structure across repeating gameplay attempts.
-
End of game
- Show answers: Gives students a comprehensive breakdown to review all correct math problem-and-answer pairings at the conclusion of the activity.
-
Saving options
- Apply to this activity: Saves these specific layout choices only for the activity you are currently editing.
-
More: Click this drop-down to find:
- Set as default for template: Saves these settings as your "go-to" configuration for every future activity you create using the Maths generator powered by the Match up template.
- Revert to default: Clears custom changes and returns the options panel back to your previously saved personal defaults.
