The Flip Tiles template is a versatile, visual tool used for exploration and memory-building. It acts like a digital set of flashcards or a display board where tiles can be flipped to reveal information on the back.

How the activity is played
This is an open-ended activity, meaning it is designed for instruction and practice rather than a graded assessment. There are no scores or leader boards.
Explore: Tap a tile to zoom in and see it clearly.
Flip: Click the flip icon to see what is on the other side.
Manage: You can "eliminate" tiles once you've discussed them to clear the board, or "restore" them if you need to see them again.
Interactive: It is perfect for "I have, who has?" games or revealing vocabulary definitions.

-
Timer
- None: No time limit is enforced, allowing students to click, flip, and study tiles completely at their own pace.
- Count up: Displays an ascending stopwatch that tracks exactly how long it takes for a student to interact with or clear the entire set of tiles.
- Count down: Sets a strict time limit (e.g., 5 minutes). The activity cuts off automatically if the countdown clock hits zero.
-
Random
- Shuffle item order: When checked, the system mixes and scrambles the layout positioning of your tiles every time the board is loaded, preventing students from memorising static card locations.
-
Grid configuration (Columns & Rows)
- Columns: Drag the slider to manually specify a fixed number of columns for your tile layout, or leave it on Auto so the system cleanly balances them to match your screen size.
- Rows: Drag the slider to manually lock the horizontal row count, or leave it on Auto to let Wordwall mathematically arrange the grid configuration based on your total item count.
-
Saving options
- Apply to this activity: Saves these specific layout configurations only for the single board file you are actively editing.

Creating Flip Tiles with AI
You don't need to be a prompt expert to use our AI. It is designed to be intuitive and accessible directly from the activity creator.
-
Click Create Activity and select Flip Tiles.
-
Look for the ✨ Generate with AI button at the top right of the content editor.
-
Enter your content:
Topic: Type a subject like "Basic Spanish Vocabulary" or "Periodic Table Symbols."
Text / Notes: Paste your summary lists, vocabulary terms, or lesson definitions. The AI will isolate the core keywords and automatically structure them into front-and-back pairs for your interactive tiles.
File: Upload a PDF or Word doc. Wordwall AI will analyze the text structure and instantly convert your study material into a double-sided grid of informational flip tiles.
-
Click Generate. The AI will populate the editing grid with the front and back content for each tile. Review the combinations, make any manual text or image adjustments if needed, and hit Done.
