The Maze Chase template is one of Wordwall's most popular games. It combines the thrill of a classic arcade "pac-man" style game with educational quizzes, requiring students to navigate a maze to find correct answers while dodging enemies.

How the activity is played
When the game begins, a question is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
The Movement: Users move their character through the maze using keyboard arrow keys (recommended) or by clicking/tapping the screen to change direction.
The Goal: Navigate to the "zone" containing the correct answer.
The Challenge: Avoid the "baddies" patrolling the maze! If a monster touches you, you lose a life.
The Mechanics: If you enter an incorrect answer zone, that path is blocked off, and you must find another way. If you are correct, you advance to the next level.
-
The Result: On the final screen, students can review their work and post their scores to the Leaderboard.

Mark the Correct Answer: Check the box next to the right choice(s). You can have more than one correct answer per question!
Click Add a question or press Enter to create the next level.
-

-
Scroll down to Visual style to add a creative style to your activity, or tailor the difficulty in the Options panel below the activity:
-
Timer
- None: No time limit is enforced, allowing students to navigate the maze and think through their answers without clock pressure.
- Count up: Displays an ascending stopwatch that tracks exactly how long it takes for a student to successfully clear all levels of the maze.
- Count down: Sets a strict time limit (e.g., 5 minutes). The activity ends automatically if the countdown clock hits zero before the game is completed.
- Lives
- Use the slider to determine how many "hits" or mistakes a student can make before encountering a Game Over screen. In the screenshot, this is set to 3 lives.
- Difficulty
- Adjust the slider to set the intensity of your maze enemies. Turning up the difficulty increases the overall speed of the baddies and optimizes their tracking logic to make them smarter. In the screenshot, this is set to level 3.
- Random
- Shuffle question order: When checked, your questions are shuffled into a completely random sequence every time the activity is launched, ensuring students face a unique level progression on repeat plays.
- End of game
- Show answers: Gives students an opportunity to review the complete list of correct responses at the conclusion of their session to learn from any mistakes.
- Saving options
